Crown Angling Club

Who are we?

Crown Angling Club was set up in 1977 to promote and cultivate social feeling,

promoting the principles of fair angling in a friendly atmosphere and to protect the clubs waters and habitat.

Those principles are still very closely followed today.

We are a very freindly club and promote family membership.

Where are we?

We are based in north Essex and currently have two waters as follows:

Gatehouse (Birch, Colchester)

This is our pleasure and match fishing lake which has 28 swims including one disabled swim.

Ample car parking is avaialble, including toilet facilities.

The lake is very peaceful and remote, and in the summer months you may even catch a

glimpse of our resident Kingfisher.

Wild Orchids and other wildlife are in abundance.

Carp to 20lb, Bream to 7lb, Tench to 4lb, Perch to 3lb, Crucian Carp to 2lb plus as well as

Rudd, Roach and newly introduced Ide are amongst the species you can expect to catch here.

You will be hard pushed to find a fishing venue where you can catch such a variety of species

Joyce's Chase (Maldon)

This is our Carp fishing lake.

In the summer months only, you are able to drive your vehicle to the lake edge.

Toilet facilities are available.

4 swims are available on a first come first served bases.

The lake holds a good head of double figure Common and Mirror Carp.

Match Fishing

Matches are held once a month from April through to October at Gatehouse, followed by a winter league.

The matches are friendly in nature and new members are always welcome to fish.

Membership for the 2025/26 season is currently full but opens again on May 1st 2026

New members must be sponsored by an existing member or approved by the committee.

Membership Fees 2025/26

Joining fee for members that are new or rejoining after a break in membership: £10

Adult (16+) £55 

Concessions: (Senior Citizen/ Junior / Disabled / Full Time Student)  £35

Family (2 adults + 2 junior's) £70

Night Fishing Permit upgrade £20 - (Dusk Until Dawn)

Day guest ticket: £5 - (Dawn until Dusk)

24 hour  guest ticket: £20 (Not available for Joyce's Chase)
