Members: Please read and digest the rules! Alcohol not permitted on club watrs, no litter to be left behind. Any breaking of the rules will end in expulsion from the club!
Crown Angling Club was set up in 1977 to promote and cultivate social feeling,
promoting the principles of fair angling in a friendly atmosphere and to protect the clubs waters and habitat.
Those principles are still very closely followed today.
We are a very freindly club and promote family membership.
Where are we?
We are based in north Essex and currently have two waters as follows:
Gatehouse: (Birch, Colchester)
This is our pleasure and match fishing lake which has 28 swims including one disabled swim.
A crushed concrete surface car park is avaialble, including toilet facilities.
The lake is very peaceful and remote, and in the summer months you may even catch a glimpse of our resident Kingfisher. Wild Orchids and other wildlife are in abundance.
Gatehouse holds a good head of Carp to 20lb, Bream to 10lb, Tench to 6lb, Perch to 3lb, Crucian Carp to 2lb+ along with a good head of Rudd and some small Roach.
You will be hard pushed to find such a great fishing venue in this area where you can catch such a variety of species at good sizes.
Joyce's Chase: (Maldon)
This is our Carp fishing lake.
In the summer months only, you are able to drive your vehicle to the lake edge.
Toilet facilities are available.
4 swims are available on a first come first served bases.
The lake holds a good head of double figure Common and Mirror Carp.
Match Fishing:
Matches are held once a month from April through to October at Gatehouse, and are friendly in nature.
All members are welcome so why not come along and give it a go.

Membership Availability:
Membership for the 2024/25 season runs from May 1st each year and we are currently operating a waiting list.
New members must be sponsored by an existing member or approved by the committee.
If you do not know a current member, we have a procedure in place that still enables you to join if your membership is accepted by the committee.
Membership Fees 2024/25:
Joining fee for members that are new or rejoining after a break in membership: £10
Adult (16+) £55
Concessions: (Senior Citizen/ Junior / Disabled) £35
Family (2 adults + 2 junior's) £70
Night Fishing Permit £20 - (Dusk Until Dawn)
Day guest ticket: £5 - (Gatehouse Only)
24 hour guest ticket: £20 - (Gatehouse Only)
